History
In July 1966, the Verona Press printed a letter from a local Vietnam serviceman proclaiming that his division, the Army 101st Airborne, had adopted Verona as "Hometown USA." Today, Verona continues to provide the quality of life and sense of community to its citizens that those soldiers recognized more than 35 years ago.

Located along Highways 18/151, Verona is uniquely situated to offer residents convenient interstate and major highway arteries that make commuting a snap. The city is a short 5-mile drive to the cultural and entertainment benefits of its neighbor to the northwest - Madison, Wisconsin's capitol.

Verona is uniquely positioned to offer the benefits of a metropolitan entertainment center one day and a hometown fair the next. You'll find plenty of recreational opportunities in Verona including hiking, biking, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing trails. Badger Prairie County Park, the largest in Dane County's park system, borders Verona on the northeastern edge, and Military Ridge State Park trail starts its 26-mile stretch. Verona is also home to Ice Age Trail.

Festivals/Events
Verona Area Community Theatre

Open auditions are held several times a year for three productions starring local performers. Two of this year's performances have been announced: Oklahoma and You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown.
Verona Area Performing Arts Series
Providing varied cultural and performing programs in music, dance and drama, the headliners this year include Tom Wopat and Kathryn Dybdahl Amyotte.

Hometown USA Days
Ironman Wisconsin Triathlon

The internationally known Ironman Triathalon is one of the world's most grueling events in the world. Competitors swim 2.4 miles, bicycle 112 miles and complete a 26.2 mile marathon that must be completed within 17 hours. There are currently 17 Ironman evens around the world; five of which are in North America; one of which is in Wisconsin.

Recreational Opportunities
Military Ridge State Trail
6 acre nature sanctuary is located along Badger Mill Creek adjacent to the East View Heights subdivision. There is a trail extending from the foot bridge across Badger Mill Creek at the end of Lincoln Street to Highway M. At the bridge end of the trail is a small grassy open area with a picnic table and benches. This 40-mile packed limestone trail is open for hiking, cycling, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and motorized wheelchairs. It connects Dodgeville and Fitchburg and runs right through downtown Verona. Most of the trail follows the former Chicago and North Western Railway line.
Ice Age National Scenic Trail
The Ice Age National Scenic Trail is one of eight national scenic trails in the United States. The serpentine trail approximates the last stopping point or terminal edge of the most recent continental glaciers, which ended their last major surge 14,000-16,000 years ago. The Verona/Ice Age Junction segment of the route travels through farm fields, woods and prairies, along a stream and past glacial kettle ponds.
Reddan Soccer Park
This is Wisconsin's largest soccer-specific facility with 15 fields on a 45-acre parcel. Each year, its tournaments attract about 1200 teams and 20,000 players.
Hometown USA Community Park
This is the city's largest park with nearly 40 acres. The park houses a skateboard ramp, a baseball diamond, two softball diamonds, playground equipment and a shelter.
Eagle's Nest Ice Arena
Home to one of the few Olympic-sized ice skating rinks in the state, Eagle's Nest Ice Arena offers skate lessons, public skating and more.
University Ridge Golf Course
This is the University of Wisconsin Golf Course and boasts f par 72, 18-hole course that received a 4.5 star rating in "Places to Play," Golf Digest 2003. The 225-acre tract offers a spectacular view of the rolling terrain, with woods, hills, sprawling meadows and a natural pond and prairie.
