Suamico is a 36 square mile municipality located in the northeast corner of Brown County in the Green Bay metropolitan area, and is considered a part of Green Bay, which is located about 5 miles south, although Suamico is a town in its own right. We have six miles of shoreline on Green Bay as well as over six miles of frontage along the Suamico River. Suamico is surrounded by other smaller towns and villages, notably the town of Little Suamico, the town of Pittsfield, the village of Howard to the south and the waters of Green Bay to the east. Suamico has historically been a rural community with most of its land undeveloped, either used as farmland or covered by woods and/or wetlands. In recent decades, however, development activity has been substantial. This growth, primarily residential, but also commercial and industrial, has had an impact on the character of the Town. Houses are now interspersed within many of the woodlands, while farm cropland and pastures have given way to subdivisions, storage buildings and similar developed uses. Despite this development the town has retained a country feel, and the woodlands and the nature trails add to that. There is always the chance that a deer may ramble across the back lot of your property, and it is not unusual to meet a family of raccoons out for an evening amble. Housing prices reflect the changes in the town, and future residents have choices between new construction, old established homesteads, apartments, condos, garden flats or even farms! New construction in this area starts at $150,000 for a mid-size 3-bedroom home, although there are many homes in the newer subdivisions that may run more. But whatever the budget, there is something here to accommodate all buyers! Suamico is still a "port" with commercial fishing boats, and commercial fishermen. There are few, if any, young men in the group. Bender's Landing is a well-known haunt of the locals, fishermen or not, and a day can spent listening to the yarns of the lakes told here. As Suamico is so close to Green Bay, there is plenty of "big city" life available, and only 5 miles away! There are restaurants galore, and plenty of movie theaters and malls and whatever else may catch your fancy.
