Boyce is located in Clarke County. Clarke County was formed in 1836 from Frederick County, Virginia and named for explorer George Rogers Clarke. This area was part of Lord Fairfax's 5 million acre Fairfax Property, and Lord Fairfax built his American Home at what is now the village of White Post. White Post came into being because of the large signpost pointing the way to Lord Fairfax's office. Clarke County, once an enclave of Tidewater planters that separated it from the rest of the Valley, still seems a 'Separate Place' in time.
