Windcrest, Texas

Population: 5,105
Located in Bexar County

Windcrest is just east of the intersection of Interstate Highway 35 and Loop 410, ten miles northeast of downtown San Antonio in northeastern Bexar County. It was developed and incorporated in the late 1950s and rapidly expanded to its current day population of 5,500 residents.

Windcrest is part of the highly desirable North East Independent School District, offering some of the best education in the greater San Antonio area. Judson High School, Clark High and Reagan High are known throughout the city and the state as the schools to beat! With great wrestling, football and cheerleading teams, as well as great academics, these schools are hard to beat.

With a wonderful mix of culture and people, Windcrest is a true melting pot! The rich aroma of multi-cultural cooking meets your nostrils as you walk down the quiet sidewalks. Children play safely on the front lawns, and basketball is a favorite pastime of the kids. Street hockey can be enjoyed in the tranquil dusk evenings.

The temperatures seldom dip below the mid 30's on even the coldest nights here, and by mid-February t-shirts replace the sweaters that may have made an appearance a couple of times during the January "freeze". Snow fell here once, back in 1986, and people still talk about it in awe and wonder!

If shopping is something you love, then look no further than Windcrest! With Live Oak not far away, there is a mall just waiting for you! Plus, New Braunfels, just a few minutes drive away has plenty of open-air malls for you to spend your day. Want to look a little further? Then spend a day, or weekend at the Outlet Mall in San Marcos.

Catch up on your history with a drive to downtown San Antonio and see the sights! Just 20 minutes from the downtown, the Alamo, the River Walk and the world-famous Buckhorn Saloon Museum are at your fingertips. Or come and check out the HemiSphere, built especially for the World Fair back in the 1960's. San Antonio is also home to five original missions, the only town in the country to have so many; why not take the trolley tour around and check them out.

For a family outing, come and see the Witte Museum. This Museum has a three-story building devoted exclusively to the under 13 age group, and they love it here! And with the zoo less than five minutes away from the Museum you might be able to squeeze both activities into one day!

Fiesta Texas and Sea World are both only about 30 minutes from Windcrest! Come and thrill to the Superman ride at Fiesta Texas, or get a good soaking while watching the antics of Shamu. Whatever you choose to do, San Antonio has it just for you!

The home prices here are comparable to many other areas on the northern side of San Antonio. New construction is going up and depending on the size of the homes, you can expect to pay between $70,000 and $150,000 for a four bedroom colonial. For a home in an already-established area, expect to spend right around $100,000.

For convenience, peace of mind, excellent schools and short commute times to anywhere within the greater San Antonio region, Windcrest will be your number one choice. Come and see why so many people have bought here and never left!
