Aransas County is 276 square miles, the second smallest county in all of Texas. Aransas County is located on the costal bend portion of the Gulf of Mexico just north of Corpus Christi; the county is made up of numerous peninsulas, islands and bays. There are three bays with such small boundaries they tie into the larger Aransas Bay: Copano, St. Charles, and Mesquite.

Aransas County has a population of 23,129 according to the 2000 census which shows a 29% increase since 1990. The communities of Aransas County are supported by gas, agricultural and offshore oil production, commercial fishing, tourism, and recreational bird watching and fishing. Aransas County is often referred to as Rockport-Fulton County because the area overlaps with Rockport-Fulton County.

Aransas County is the site of early Native American inhabitation, Spanish exploration, and Anglo Colonization in the 1830's and 1840's. Today Aransas County is the home of Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, created in 1937 the winter home to the endangered whooping crane.
