The city of Melissa is a fast growing North Texas community with a population of approximately 1,736. Melissa is located fifty miles north of downtown Dallas. Situated in northeast Collin County, Melissa is in a dynamic growth area with a region encompassing nine counties and spanning one hundred miles with a population of over four million. The close proximity to Dallas and its suburbs offer easy access to all parts of the Metroplex, including Fort Worth, and other areas of Texas as well. Melissa encompasses approximately 7 square miles with a terrain with rolling hills situated between the East fork of the Trinity River and Sister Grove Creek. The City of Melissa is located a short distance from two popular Texas lakes, Lake Lavon and Lake Texoma. Making easy access for travel in all directions, Melissa has three intersecting highways. Highway 75 and Highway 5 (McKinney Street) provide easy access south to Dallas, Austin and San Antonio, and north to Oklahoma. Highway 75 also intersects with Interstate 635, the major business loop around Dallas. State Highway 121 runs northeast and southwest providing access south to DFW International Airport and south to the Dallas North Tollway. DFW International Airport is the world's third busiest, offering nearly 2,000 flights per day and serving 54 million passengers a year.
