Fair Oaks Ranch is located in three different counties of Texas: Bexar County, Kendall County and Comal County. The population is approximately 4,500 and has a land area of about 7.2 square miles. Fair Oaks Ranch is about 22 miles from San Antonio and is about 3 miles from Scenic Oaks, 6 miles from Cross Mountain, 7 miles from Boerne, and 9 miles from Grey Forest.
Fair Oaks Ranch, originally a 5,000 acre ranch, was founded in the 1930's by Ralph E. Fair. In 1969 after the passing of Mr. Fair and his wife their remaining family began to develop the large ranch. By 1975 a homeowners association was created to help maintain the beauty and development of the ranch. By 1985 state laws required two cities to be made of the land, Fair Oaks Ranch South and Fair Oaks Ranch North but on January 21, 1988, the two cities were combined and named Fair Oaks Ranch.
