Beeville, Texas

Population: 13,547
Located in Bee County

Bernard Bee left Texas in 1846, his service as Texas Secretary of State and Texas Secretary of War, was enough to have both county and county seat named in his honor. Beeville only had about 300 people in 1880, but when the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad came through in 1886, the population rose to one thousand. Beeville is now the county seat of Bee County, and is on Poesta Creek, about 90 minutes south east of San Antonio. It is about thirty minutes from Corpus Christi.

The first name for the new community was Maryville, after a member of the Heffernan family who had survived the Indian massacre. Eight months later the county commissioners changed the name to Beeville, and for some time the court's minutes referred to Beeville-on-the-Medio and Beeville-on-the-Poesta.

The Beeville school district has ten schools accommodating all the students in this flourishing, thriving community. With transplants moving here from all over the world, not only the United States, Beeville has kept up wonderfully with the challenges of education. Bee County College opened in 1967, and offers many classes.

People come from all over the world to settle in Beeville, including the United Kingdom, Spain and other European countries. They are initially drawn by the climate, but stay because of the southern hospitality they experience here, as well as the fantastic home prices!

Home prices are extremely reasonable in the Beeville district, and many of the homes are built on large lots; with plenty of room between homes. A large, 2,200 square foot home sells for $105,000. There are many homes for rent as well, for those who need to look around before purchasing.

The weather here is as close to perfect as weather can be without moving to Hawaii! Hot, somewhat humid summers give way to mild, warm fall, which in turn move to pleasant winters, where if you are lucky (or unlucky depending on how you feel about the cold) you may experience an occasional ice storm. Winter lasts only a few weeks before the balmy days turn into a definite spring.

Bee Ville has come a long way from its humble beginnings, and is growing rapidly, but is also doing it gracefully. Why not be a ?honey? and check out this ?beehive??
