Incorporated in 1922, the City of Alamo Heights is a community rich in history. A city within the much larger city of San Antonio, our growth preceded the "cookie cutter" approach that developers have utilized in the subdivisions surrounding San Antonio. As a result, Alamo Heights has retained much of its old-fashioned charm. Those of us who have grown up in Alamo Heights value the uniqueness of our neighborhood - many, many of us who grew up here, go off to college, and return to Alamo Heights to raise our own families. That speaks well of our little city. We are hopeful that developers and residents who are expanding and remodeling will respect their neighbors by designing expansion and additions that enhance rather than overwhelm the character of our community. And we hope all will join us in that endeavor! We are going through a transformation that will make our little city more "user-friendly." Our Economic Development Committee has been working for the last two-plus years to make our downtown more inviting for those who like to shop in some of the friendliest shops anywhere, and perhaps socialize with neighbors while walking around downtown, enjoying the afternoon or evening together. I know you'll be as pleased and excited as we expect to be as you watch the changes as they unfold!!
