Oakland, TennesseeOakland, Tennessee is located on the west side of Fayette County along Highway 64 just 10 miles west of Somerville and 28 miles east of Memphis. It is the fastest-growing town in Fayette County and is home to many new residents looking for a quiet neighborhood with convenient places to shop, dine and play. But beneath its bustling exterior, Oakland has a proud heritage dating to 1830, when the town was first settled by pioneers who came from Virginia and the Carolinas. A Presbyterian Church, one of the earliest in the county, was organized near Oakland in 1834, and Oakland is home to the oldest financial institution in Fayette County, the Oakland Deposit Bank, managed for four generations by members of the Henry family. Fair Oaks Golf Course is an 18-hole golf course that covers about 165 acres and includes a driving range. The golf course, one of Oakland?s newest attractions, and its surrounding residential development has been built in an area located off Highway 194 north of Highway 64 at Oakland. Oktoberfest is held each year in October and takes place at the Oakland Center Mall on Highway 64.
