Situated in the lovely rolling hills of former ranches and farms, Frisco has become one of North Texas' most vibrant, sought-after communities for residential and commercial relocation. This former small farming community had less than 1,000 residents in the 1970s, but had grown to just over 6,000 residents in 1990. The city now hosts a population of more than 55,000. The North Central Texas Council of Governments estimates the city grew nearly 28 percent between 1999 and 2000 one of the most explosive growth rates of any city in the 16-county region. Frisco is located in Collin County, which along with neighboring Denton County, has been ranked in the top five metropolitan growth counties in the United States. Frisco city planning officials estimate the population will grow to more than 67,000 residents by 2010. Average annual household income is $71,114, according to NCTCG, with 82.3 percent possessing at least a high school diploma or some higher education. Approximately 6 percent of the population is age 65 or older.

Averages for the eight-county region peg average annual household income at $62,736, with 80.5 percent of residents possessing at least a high school education The largest mall in North Texas, Stonebriar Centre, calls Frisco home!

A 1, 600,000 square foot regional retail mall, the largest in North Texas with Nordstrom, Foley's, Macy's, JC Penney, Sears, and Galyan's as the 6 anchor stores, opened to record breaking numbers of shoppers on August 4, 2000. The shopping center is located at the northwest corner of SH 121 and Preston Road. Galyan's, a full line sporting goods store, estimates their store opening to be spring 2001. The center is also home to The Ice, an NHL-sized ice rink located on the lower level of the center near Sears. The third floor houses a 24 screen AMC Movie Theater with state of the art surround sound and stadium seating. The shopping center is managed by General Growth Properties.

Education:
 With almost 1,750 employees serving the needs of more than 200 students, Frisco ISD is the largest single employer in Frisco. During the past five years, FISD has grown by 22-25 percent annually in student population; this past year our enrollment grew by 30 percent, indicating that growth is accelerating. Within the 72 square miles of our district, we serve residents of Collin and Denton Counties and residents of Frisco, and some portions of Plano, Little Elm, and McKinney.

With this growth comes the responsibility to manage the growth and to build for the future. Frisco ISD now has thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, one high school, another high school opening in 2003 and one special programs school and an alternative school. To meet the construction needs of the district.

In addition, as the school district grows in size, so does its commitment to excellence and its focus on providing the best learning opportunities for students. Test scores continue to improve and are well above the state and national averages. More than 65 percent of our seniors take one or more of the college entrance exams, and almost 90 percent of our graduating seniors were planning to continue their education following high school. (Community colleges do not require a college entrance exam score for admission.) The Class of 2001 earned more than $1 million in scholarships to further their education.

As the city has grown in west Frisco, Lewisville Independent School District is serving more of the population, which now has attendance of 39,108 students from K-12.
