Henderson is a suburb of Las Vegas and Las Vegas has it all! Lots of sunshine, mild winters, very little rain, a mountain range 45 minutes to an hour away with skiing in the winter and hiking, camping and picnicking in the pines in the summer. Henderson is only 10 minutes away from Lake Mead (one of the largest man made lakes in the world).
Henderson is the home of chocolate (Ethel M Chocolates), ice cream (Good Humor Breyers) and baked goods (Interstate Brands West) makers which led one official to muse that Henderson might be the "Sweet Tooth Capital of Nevada."
Named the fastest growing large city in America by the U.S. Census, the City of Henderson is recognized as the gateway community into the Las Vegas region. Nestled against the mountains, it forms the southern edge for the fastest growing metropolitan area in the United States. The City's population of 240,910 (April 2005) ranks Henderson as the second largest city in the State of Nevada. Henderson is no longer a bedroom community. Thirty-seven percent (37%) of employed residents work in Henderson, exceeding the goal set in the 1996 Henderson Comprehensive Plan for 25% in-town employment. Henderson has also become home to a number of new colleges. In 2002, Nevada State College opened its doors, and the city of Henderson became home to the first state college in Nevada. With the addition of Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine and National University in the past year, Henderson is now home to 13 colleges and universities. Positions in highest demand in the area include those in healthcare fields such as nursing.
Located just 7 miles from the famous Las Vegas Strip and a mile from beautiful Lake Mead, Henderson is known throughout the nation for its premiere master planned residential communities, outstanding parks and recreation facilities, cultural activities and a rapidly growing business community.
