Affectionately called the "City of Homes," the City of Huntington Woods is located in the heart of Southeastern Oakland County, Michigan. Seventy-five years ago, the 1.5 square mile city was founded as a village of 160 homes and 500 residents. Today, the city boasts 2,419 homes and over 6,151 residents. This friendly community welcomes people with open arms and has many different activities for residents of all ages. With homes that have great historical significance to the Detroit area there is a garden club that makes sure the beauty of the gardens matches the grandeur of the homes. For young mothers there are several babysitting services available through the city, and many mother-tot activities as well. There is an active scouting organization for boys and girls, and an excellent library open to residents here. Houses are reasonably priced in this area, with the average home starting at $200,000, and some as high as one million. Most homes here are single-family dwellings, built in the mid-1900's with the wonderful architecture that goes along with each era. This is a well-established neighborhood with many professional people making their home here. Excellent public and private schools, as well as a great selection of universities make Huntington Woods one of the most desirable suburbs of the greater Detroit area. Students attend Ferndale Public Schools, and this district is renowned throughout the state for fine schools.Every year this small city has parades to commemorate special events, whether national or local. One very popular activity is the Dream Cruise. This has grown since 1992, its inception to now incorporate over one million people and many business. Woodward Avenue, the main street that runs north and south through Huntington Woods, and other cities, is closed to general traffic, and opened to classic cars, anything 25 years old and older. This has become one of the biggest draws for this area, and brings in a lot of business. Huntington Woods has recently expanded their recreation and aquatics facility; they have full time police protection, and a small, but extensive public library. This is a community that is very concerned about preservation of the past, and yet has plans for the future as well.
