Allendale, Michigan Relocation Guide

If you like a small town and country charm but still want to be close to things like shopping, schools, medical facilities, movie theaters, sports events, a major university, and more...it's all here! It's a picturesque 15 minute drive from Grand Rapids on tree-lined Lake Michigan Drive. On those dog days of summer, you can head west to Lake Michigan's beautiful sandy beaches (only about 15 min ride). The outlet malls in Holland are popular and only about 20 minutes away as are several malls, shopping, movie theaters, sports events, and more in Grand Rapids to the east.

Back in Allendale..."Allendale Community Park" offers a nice barrier-free playground, nature trails, two covered picnic shelters, restrooms, lighted basketball and tennis courts, horseshoe & shuffleboard facilities, and several baseball and softball diamonds. It's a hoppin' place in the summer! Near the west end of the park you'll find the "Veterans Garden of Honor" as well as the "Knowlton House Museum". You can also check out Allendale's firehouse museum. This old firehouse was dismantled brick by brick and moved from its previous location in Grand Rapids to its current home on Lake Michigan Dr in Allendale.

Allendale boasts a beautiful new high/middle school (1997). The school system is equipped to handle special education needs as well as having an excellent curriculum for students planning advanced studies. Allendale Christian School offers an alternative to public education. Allendale is fortunate to have most all kinds of businesses and services available locally to its residents. These include: Post office, fire department, Allendale telephone company, a major grocery store, well-stocked hardware, auto repair shops, several restaurants, video rentals, dentists, optometrists, veterinarian, and Campustown Professionals (medical services/doctors).

On top of all of this, GVSU makes its home in Allendale. Since its humble beginnings in 1963, the university has grown to cover nearly 900 acres with a multitude of educational buildings and student housing. GVSU offers locals the use of their athletic and work-out facilities for a nominal fee.

For your spiritual well-being, Allendale is the home of several churches of varying denominations. Road crews are currently busy creating a beautiful boulevard of Lake Michigan Drive through Allendale. When completed, this should provide a very attractive roadway in "your town".
