Known as "a city of festivals", Owensboro is host to several annual festivals including the most popular, Annual International Bar-B-Q Festival, which draws crowds from all over the world to Owensboro and features music, square dancing, and a number of other events.

Special events can be enjoyed throughout the year by Owensboro residents such as traditional bluegrass music performances, Symphony Orchestra concerts, and theater performances. During the summer months of May thru September, every Friday evening, local entertainers perform at the downtown riverpark. A great time for locals to enjoy the beautiful Ohio River view and visit with neighbors.

In addition to festivals and special events, Owensboro Parks and Recreation Department maintains a variety of outdoor areas including parks, playgrounds, softball and baseball diamonds, basketball courts, swimming pools, golf courses, tennis courts, nature trails, an ice arena and a walkway for biking and walking.

Located on the Ohio River, Owensboro "A True Boating Town", offers boat enthusiasts a summer in the sun. The Executive Marina is located right on the river. Owensboro is located on the southern banks of the Ohio River. It is the third largest populated city in the state of Kentucky.
