Castle Rock is Colorado's Secret, Make It Yours!

Castle Rock with Pikes Peak in the distance.

The attraction of Castle Rock is its location, growing population, and of course, the views and spectacular sunsets.

Incorporated in 1881, Castle Rock has changed significantly over the years in residential and business growth. This once-tiny county seat now boasts a population of 23,000, according to 2000 town planning projections. The town is managed by a town council and manager form of government and is considered a home-rule community.

Employment
As the seat for Douglas County, Castle Rock is home to many government offices and support services. In addition, our strong retail sector contains a number of large employers. The major employers in the community come from a broad spectrum of industries lending strength to the town with a diversified economy.

"With a healthy mix of local companies and national chains, and a wide range of home-based and entrepreneurial businesses, the Castle Rock business community is thriving."

Pam Ridler, President
Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce

Unemployment rates in Colorado are among the lowest in the country. With only 2 percent unemployed in Douglas County, nearly all of the 55,000 individuals currently in the county's workforce are gainfully employed.

However, three quarters of the Castle Rock workforce currently commutes elsewhere to work. Of these commuters, 75 percent would prefer to work in town if equivalent jobs were available. This presents an ideal labor market for local businesses to draw from.

Schools
Douglas County School District RE-1 offers preschool programs, charter schools and an alternative high school in addition to the traditional elementary, middle school and high school.

The School District also offers English as a Second Language (ESL) for K-12 and parents. ESL Coordinator for K-12: Parke Covarrubias, 303 814-5289. Parent University Coordinator: Debbie Novotny, 303 814-5272.
