Pismo Beach is located on the Central Coast of California, North of Santa Barbara and South of San Luis Obispo, on Highway 101, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Pismo Beach, California, an Oceanside community located on the Pacific Ocean, is famous for having one of Californias longest and widest stretches of beach. The area provides a host of recreational activities like kayaking, surfing, fishing from the Pismo pier, horseback riding and ATV riding right at the beach. The warmest months are August through October, characterized with coastal fog in the mornings and clearing to afternoon sunshine. Just around the bend in the road north of Pismo Beach lies the city of Shell Beach, one of the most scenic spots you'll ever find. Rugged cliffs, rocks jutting out of the water, crevice-filled rocks with sand crabs and a sandy beach nestled between rock formations make for an afternoon or day adventure. The main attraction in this little town are the vistas of the Pacific Ocean. Drive down to Ocean Boulevard where parking and a set of stairs provide access to the sandy beach below. There's a perfect lookout gazebo in a very small Margo Dodd park. Take a picnic basket and enjoy breathtaking sunset views. Bring a fishing pole...fishermen love to cast lines from the stretch of cliffs at this location which provides several benches for sitting and waiting for a bite on the line. Also popular in Shell Beach is kayaking. Sports enthusiasts carry their boats down the the 100 or so steps to launch off from the beach.
