Alabaster is now Shelby County's largest city, with a present population of about 22,000, and according to a recent Birmingham News study, was one of the top ten fastest growing cities in the entire state.

Because of its location, it is a quiet suburban city with abundant land, interstate highway access, and harmonious citizenry government. It has a new fire department, an award winning public library, and a new sewerage system.

Alabaster has an elementary school, a new junior high school and a relative new high school with new renovations completed in February of 2001.
