The first settler to the area which was to become known as Pataskala was David Heron, who was living here in 1805 when Richard Conine and his wife Sarah visited the area. Richard Conine, who was to become known as the "Father of Pataskala", liked what he saw, and when he returned home to New Jersey, he arranged to purchase 2,000 acres of land here. Pataskala has a municipal swimming pool and 2 recreation parks located within the village. The Pataskala Lions Park, located about 1-1/2 miles east of the village is the site of the Southwest Licking Little League and Pony League playing fields. Highlands Golf Club, a private 18 hole championship course, is 3 miles north of town and Broadview Golf Course, a beautiful 9 hole course, is located on the north edge of the Indian Hills Village. Although Pataskala is a smaller community, its surrounding area population has doubled in the last 10 years. |
