Population: 8,047 Located in Bergen County

This borough of about 8,000 people snuggled up against the Oradell reservoir on the Hackensack river, between Emerson & New Milford, was incorporated in 1894 as Delford, New Jersey. It was Daniel Demarest who would become Oradell's second mayor, who is credited with giving the community its present name sometime before 1876

Two years later, at the celebration of his 86th birthday, "uncle Dan" Demarest explained that he had found the word "Ora" meaning "at the margin of," in a Latin dictionary and that the combination-Oradell- was a fitting description for the locality.
