Marlboro Township, New Jersey

Marlboro Township was first settled by English, Scottish and Dutch farmers in the late 17th century, and was officially established as its own township in 1848. The name was derived from marl, a natural fertilizer rich in lime found throughout the area. This natural fertilizer is unusually valuable and after it was discovered, the economy of the region began to grow. Known for its exclusive residential communities, today, Marlboro Township is a particularly lush community geared towards family living that attracts many families with a top-rated excellent school system, a great variety of stores and easy commuting. In recent years, Marlboro Township has undergone a great deal of residential and commercial expansion.

Marlboro Township is 30.3 square miles with a population of approximately 36,398. The township consists of 5 elementary, 1 middle and 1 high school with a 15 to 1 student teacher ratio. Marlboro Township is serviced by volunteer fire departments and first aid squads.
