According to recorded history, the thirty-three square mile area which is now the Township of Bridgewater was originally purchased from a local Indian tribe. Chartered by King George II of England in 1749 and incorporated in 1899, Bridgewater includes the villages of Martinsville, Finderne, Bradley Gardens, Green Knoll, Somerville Manor and Sunset Lake. It boasts of beautiful countryside, quiet neighborhoods, sophisticated retail districts, including the Bridgewater Commons, and modern office buildings. It's a perfect balance of urban, suburban, and rural atmosphere.

Schools: The Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District (BRRSD) educates over 7500 students in the areas 10 exemplary schools, which are divided up into four levels; one high school, one middle school, two intermediate schools, and six primary elementary schools. The district's mission is to " maximize the learning opportunities of our students so that they can reach their full potential and create a child centered environment that enables our students to be productive learners, with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead successful, meaningful lives in the 21st century." Bridgewater is home to the 2nd best schools in the state!

Kidstreet - a community-planned and built playground located behind the Bridgewater Township Municipal Building on Garretson Road.

Commerce Bank Ballpark, located at 1 Patriots Park, off East Main Street at I-287, is the brand new state of the art multi-use facility that is home to the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Fans enjoy 6,100 arm chair seats with cup holders to ensure maximum comfort. Ample parking is available in close proximity to Commerce Bank Ballpark. Twenty luxury suites and an alcohol-free family section round out New Jersey's finest baseball facility. Fans always know the score by gazing toward the most awesome scoreboard to be found anywhere in the minor leagues. The full color video message board will keep fans informed and updated throughout the game.

Green Knoll Golf Course is a regulation, 18 hole, 6,443 yard course that is a challenge to the experienced golfer, as well as the novice player. Green Knoll is known for its tight fairways and rolling contours. The facility also operates a lighted 9 hole par three Pitch and Putt Course. A golf shop and snack bar are available. Green Knoll is located on 587 Garretson Road, Bridgewater Township and is one of 4 golf courses located in Somerset County. Also featured is the Green Knoll Grill - Casual dining with full dinners and a variety of lighter fare and sporting an enclosed courtyard/playground for the kids during warm weather.

County Parks and Recreational Facilities - the county boasts of some 8300 acres of parkland featuring a wide array of activities from boating, fishing, biking, and horseback riding to tennis, picnicking, and swimming, all surrounded by a beauty which honored New Jersey with the title "the Garden State."

Bridgewater Sports Arena - The Bridgewater sports arena is the perfect place for a rainy day or when there's nothing to do. With an arcade full of games, air hockey and more, there's something for everyone to play. For little kids, the Sports Arena has the "Soft and Play", a huge play area made up of ropes, soft balls and slides. For the older child, there's the new laser tag game and bumper cars. Having 3 ice rinks (2 primarily for hockey and one for free skate) there's always some sort of opportunity to "hit the ice". Between activities you can get a bite to eat at Villa Pizza, which serves pizza, candy and more.
