Wolfeboro, New Hampshire
Population: 6,083 Located in Carroll County
Wolfeboro is the oldest Summer Resort in the United States and is also one of the most frequented towns in the Lakes Region. As a Lakes Region Specialist, Rick Hagan is a great contact for the town of Wolfeboro. Lake Winnipesaukee, Lake Wentworth, and many smaller lakes are among the bodies of water located in Wolfeboro. The Mount Washington, the largest passenger boat on Lake Winnipesaukee, also stops at the town docks in Wolfeboro. Tourists can visit quaint little shops like Black's, The Yum Yum Shop, and bailey's Ice Cream shop. As a little boy, I used to fish out of the town docks with my grandfather. The best fishing was just after the Mount pulled away from the dock. I have many fond memories of Wolfeboro and look forward to sharing them with you! Wolfeboro, New Hampshire has the distinction of being known as "The Oldest Summer Resort in America." More than 200 years ago, New Hampshire's colonial Governor John Wentworth built a summer home on the shores of what is now called Lake Wentworth. He came to his "mansion" during the summer and was followed by others who discovered the quiet and charm of the area. Recreation: Wolfeboro is a fantastic place for recreation! We have pristine lakes, rivers and trails. As one could guess there are a myriad of summertime activities to enjoy on the water: kayaking, scuba diving, waterskiing, fishing, swimming and sailing to name a few. On land there are two golf courses and miles of trails for hiking and biking. As winter arrives (and it always does) the community is fortunate to have plenty of cross-country ski and snowmobile trails, ice skating, ice boating and ice fishing.
