Northwood, New Hampshire
Population: 3,640
Located in Rockingham County
First settled in 1763, Northwood separated from Nottingham and was incorporated in 1773. The town was also known as North Woods and Northwood Narrows, a name still used. At one time, there were some 12 sawmills in the town, five of which were replaced by shoe factories. More recently, the town has been a popular vacation spot, being home to ten lakes, including Bow, Pleasant, and Harvey Lakes. The First New Hampshire Turnpike was built about 1800 to connect Portsmouth, New Hampshire's only seaport, with the state capitol, Concord; it runs the length of Northwood. Also called Route Four, the highway has been a major influence on the town since it was constructed. Throughout the nineteenth century, our many early taverns accommodated sledge and stage passengers. In this century, travelers with speedier vehicles have enjoyed our summer boarding houses, overnight cabins, motels and restaurants. For those who are looking to buy property in this charmed area of New Hampshire the selection and prices ranges are almost limitless. Expect to spend anywhere from $40,000 to $800,000 depending on personal preference, style, and taste. Many New Yorkers have moved to this area because of its breathtaking beauty, lakes and attractive schools and economy. But most of all, people move here for the peace and quiet and rural lifestyle this slice of America offers. The motto for New Hampshire is after all, "The road less traveled." Northwood is proud of its nine lakes and ponds, its mountain views, miles of country roads, and its many lovely old homes and public buildings. Find homes for sale in Northwood New Hampshire
