Nestled among three Indian Lakes, Winnisquam, Opechee and Winnipesaukee, Laconia lies almost in the geographical center of New Hampshire. Laconia is the hub of the area known as the Lakes Region.

Laconia offers excellent advantages for a great variety of year-round pleasure activities. Summer recreation includes all of the water sports (boating, sailing, water skiing, swimming, yachting, fishing, jet skiing, and windsurfing). The Laconia Country Club has an outstanding 18 hole Golf Course. Laconia's downtown has undergone extensive renovations and buzzes with activity, cinemas, shopping, restaurants and a new MicroBrewery Pub. The Belknap Mill is the cultural center of the region. The historic lake cruise aboard the MS Mt. Washington, 1,250 passenger, "Queen of the Lake", includes public and charter rides, clambakes, moonlight and special theme cruises. Winter activities include skiing at Gunstock Ski area, cross-country trails, snowmobiling, ice-skating, ice fishing, tobogganing, and winter hiking.

The Laconia area hosts excellent school systems and sports programs. Many special events take place throughout the year including: country fairs; antique car and boat shows; flea markets; regattas; water skiing competitions; square dancing; dramatics; art shows; the Motorcycle Weekend; the World Champion Sled Dog races each February and boat races in the summer.
