Newfound Lake
The Newfound Lake area is a great place to day trip or vacation for a longer stay.

To reach the area, travel Route 104 from Meredith to Bristol, or Route 3A from Franklin to Bristol.

The undisputed gem of the area is Newfound Lake. This pristine lake is one of the cleanest in the country and offers boating, fishing, swimming and great beaches.

Downtown
As you travel to the Newfound Area, stop in downtown Bristol at the Minot-Sleeper Library on the main street. This cozy little library is definitely worth the visit. There's something tranquil and "step-back-in-time" about this library. It's a great place to spend a hot summer afternoon browsing through books and magazines. (Ask about the unique collection of stuffed birds that was donated to the library some time ago.)

From Main Street, travel up Lake Street to the Newfound Lake area. There are plenty of beaches on Newfound and the lake has a more tranquil feeling than some of the bigger and busier lakes.

Wellington State Park
Follow the signs at the foot of Newfound Lake (by a large Catholic church on the left) to Wellington State Park. This park is a favorite of many with its white sandy beaches and clear water. There are picnic tables, grilling areas and gorgeous views of Newfound Lake and the surrounding mountains.

Sculptured Rocks
For a truly unique experience, don't forget to visit Sculptured Rocks in Groton while you are in the area. To reach the rock formation, take Route 3A from Bristol north towards Plymouth. Turn left from Route 3A at the signs for Hebron village. Once you reach Hebron, drive past the Hebron Village Store and follow signs for Sculptured Rocks and Groton.

The Sculptured Rocks area is well worth photographing. It is said that the incredible rock formations here were formed during the ice age. The river flowing over and around the rocks provides a great swimming experience, but be cautious: in places the river is deceptively deep. There is plenty of parking at the Sculptured Rocks area, and lots of places to spread out a blanket and picnic lunch.
