Tucked away in the far western corner of Nevada and nestled against the towering Sierra Nevada range, is one of the best kept secrets in the West: the garden spot of Nevada! Zephyr Cover lies at 4,625 feet above sea level and enjoys 295 days of sunshine a year with four distinct seasons and few extremes in weather.

Because of the elevation, the cold air is dry and not as penetrating as it would be in marine climates. Likewise, summer heat is also very dry. Afternoon thunderstorms in July and August bring warm summer rains releasing the aroma of sweet desert sage, the State Flower of Nevada.

The smell of pine and plenty of space seems to have drawn people to Zephyr Cove. Wildlife shares this land, and it's not unusual to see deer, an occasional bear, and the footprints of mountain lions here. If you're looking for a remote spot to settle down, you'll find wooded parcels of 5 acres or more at an elevation slightly higher than the Carson Valley. Of course it gets a little colder in the winter, but the summers are cooler, too.

A number of homes in this area are carefully tucked away in the pinyon and juniper studded hills, out of view from the road - you hardly know they are there. Homes are more like retreats, and come with large amounts of land, with room for horses! Houses here sell for an average of $500,000 although some homes sell for $200,000. Others sell for millions, but there are plenty of choices for the discerning buyer.

Zephyr Cove is located in Douglas County and has much to offer residents in their daily lifestyle. The county has two well-stocked libraries and continues to add nearly 4,000 books every year. The county also boasts a swim center with four pools including one for small children and one for the elderly. The parks and recreation division offer several activities that focus on individual age groups from pre-school age to senior citizens.

Whether you are looking for a summer vacation home or a year round homestead, Zephyr Cove should be the first place you look. We guarantee it will also be the last!
