Population: 1,452 Located in Lyon County

Smith Valley lies in sparsely populated Lyon County, which is one of Nevada's leading agricultural counties. The small town of Wellington snuggles into the base of the Wellington Hills on the SW side of the valley where there is a friendly RV park on the West Walker River, and a popular restaurant in a renovated historic building down the road at the Wellington Cutoff. Across the way to the east, the Smith Valley and Jackpot Mines are hidden in a small rise of hills. The town of Smith lies in the valley's center where the West Walker River is channeled in several directions to irrigate the fields.

Homes can range from a simple single-family home up to multi-acre Estates. There are no subdivisions here, just homes placed far apart from each other with plenty of land and rolling vistas to separate them. Smith Valley includes the town of Wellington, also known as the Westside of Smith Valley. Here there are many choices of either land to buy, or newer homes that have already been built.

There is no lack of things to do around here! With the Sierra Mountains surrounding you, and lakes that look like glass, which reflect the mountains so perfectly, what more could you want? The lakes offer boating, skiing, fishing, bird watching and anything else you can think of! And with almost perfect weather all year round, you can always count on having something to do.

Hiking in the mountains is a popular pastime, and one many locals enjoy doing. And the Toiyabe National Forest is not far away either, in fact it is only 20 miles from Smith Valley. Here you find yourself walking along East Walker River enjoying the sights.

Carson City is not far, and is a quick, easy commute along roads that are still very rural. Carson City offers the night life and the lights for those who want it, while being close enough to beat a quick retreat at the end of the day or the evening.

Many people are finding Smith Valley is everything they ever wanted in a community, with a rural feel, not too close to the urban areas, but still isolated enough to allow solitude and relaxation. Smith Valley gives everyone who lives here a sense of being one with nature. If that describes your perfect home, then come on home to Smith Valley!
