Many residents enjoy The Sioux City Explorers, a professional Class A minor league baseball team based in Sioux City. In addition, the cultural benefits of Siouxland are close by-museums, theater, art centers, and several outdoor festivals are all nearby! South Sioux City residents are just minutes away from work, shopping, family activities and entertainment. Located within ten minutes of Sioux Gateway Airport, it's a short drive to full commercial jet service - and the world. The South Sioux City community school district enjoys a regional reputation for excellent facilities and a top-notch learning environment. Over 93 percent of our students graduate. In addition, all of the school buildings in the district are linked together with state-of-the-art telecommunications equipment. Children also attend parochial and private schools in the community and in the Siouxland metropolitan area. After graduating from our excellent schools, students can continue to learn at either of the two private colleges and two state universities that are located within one hour of South Sioux City. The Tri-State Graduate Center offers a variety of graduate level programs locally. In addition, Western Iowa Tech Community College is minutes away in Sioux City. Northeast Nebraska Community College is located within a two hour drive. Dakota is a city of 1,580 people located in the northeast corner of Nebraska, in Dakota County, bordering Sioux City, Iowa, and South Sioux City, Nebraska. Two modern, four-lane bridges spanning the Missouri River facilitate traffic between these communities. U.S. Highways 77 and 20 and Nebraska Highway 35 serve the area. The Interstate 129 bridge and expressway give complete four-lane access to Interstate 29. Dakota City is at the head of navigation on the Missouri River. The original town of Dakota City was laid out stretching two miles east and west with the eastern border of the town marked by the bank of the Missouri River. Dakota City soon became a port-of-call by the many steamboats then plying the river. The main street, Broadway, also was laid out east and west. As the name Broadway implies, the 150-foot wide street is one of the widest main streets ever laid out in Nebraska.
