Population: 14,732 Located in Scotts Bluff County
Scottsbluff is centrally located in Scotts Bluff County in western Nebraska approximately 20 miles from the Wyoming border and just 110 miles from Colorado's Front Range. Scottsbluff is located on the north side of the North Platte River. Scottsbluff is the largest city in the western Nebraska Panhandle Region. Like many towns along the North Platte River, Scottsbluff came into existence as a result of the extension of the Burlington Northern Railroad through the valley. The town site was laid out by the Lincoln Land Company, a Burlington subsidiary, in December 1899, and the railroad tracks reached it in February 1900. Most of the town site was laid out on land purchased from the McClenahan family. The water is great at Lake Minatare for swimming, boating, or fishing. It is not hard to catch the limit of 2-4 pound walleyes at one of the State's best walleye lakes. An abundance of rainbow trout are found in many of the creeks and streams of the area. Scottsbluff has a major advantage for the prospective homebuyer: it is one of the most cost effective places to live! Most homes here average in price from $70,000 to $100,000. And land abounds on this side of the state, so you can buy a parcel of land and build the house of your dreams! This is a town that continually sees growth, and it's easy to see why! The views are incredible, the climate good and the people friendly. This is a place with a lot to offer. Scottsbluff Demographics |
