Poolesville, Maryland

Poolesville was little more than a wilderness in the early 1700's when a few hardy souls ventured out and settled in this area. Little is left of that era, although the Poole House still stands, as does the one room school house that was built in the 1800's. Located on the western side of Maryland, almost at the border of Virginia, Poolesville is still a fairly rural area filled with dairy farms, cattle farms, crop farms, nurseries and horse farms. Several industries are located in the area and a careful balance is maintained between the agricultural and industrial aspects of the town.

Natural beauty enhances the area, including the famous Sugarloaf Mountain. This national landmark with more than 3,000 acres of wooded parklands, is located eight miles north of Poolesville. It offers a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside as well as hiking and picnicking. White's Ferry, located six miles west of Poolesville, has the only ferry still operating on the Potomac River. The "General Jubal A. Early" carries cars and passengers between Maryland and Virginia.

Just a few minutes away from the greater Germantown area, Poolesville offers residents a quiet, rural way of living with a quick commute to and from the office. This makes Poolesville and ideal place to live and raise a family.

If choice is what you're looking for, then Poolesville is the place to look! With homes ranging in price from the low $200,000's to $800,000 and more for large estate properties, Poolesville caters all needs. Some of these properties include large lots, and horse properties with acreage, pastures, stables and barns are available.

The Town of Poolesville has what is described as one of the best parks systems in the state of Maryland. There are currently eight town-owned and maintained parks, and a Montgomery County swimming pool facility, within the town limits.

Halmos Park is the largest park in the town at 15 acres, and offers tennis courts, a basketball court, baseball fields, a softball field, soccer/football field, a concession stand, picnic tables, and grills. L.M. Stevens Park: has a wonderful soccer field, a playground, baseball field, and tot lot. Several other parks in the area, including Brooks Park and Bodmer Park offer tot lots. Poolesville has a reputation of being a wonderful place to live and raise a family, and with all the cultural, educational and recreational opportunities it is not hard to see why!
