Founded in 1785, Bristol is a thriving community of history and industry with a diverse blend of culture and tradition. Known as the "Clock City," Bristol is the site of the American Clock and Watch Museum, one of the many early Connecticut industries which shaped the development of this independent, small city. Recreational and cultural activities include: Lake Compounce Theme Park, the nation's first amusement park; The Nature Center, featuring a nature library, walking trails and live reptiles and amphibians; the New England Carousel Museum and a community senior center; Bristol Symphony Orchestra; Bristol Brass and Wind Ensemble; and the Fall Chrysanthemum Festival. Of special interest to sprouting baseball players is the Bartlett Giamatti Eastern Regional Little League Training Center. Swimming, tennis, skiing, basketball and softball are facilitated through the town's extensive park system and golf and tennis are available at private clubs.
