While still retaining its rural atmosphere, Bethany today has become an affluent residential community of professionals and skilled workers who commute to work in Hartford, Milford, Fairfield and New Haven, as well as the nearby towns. Bethany's children attend an in-town elementary school. Part of Regional School District 5, the junior and senior high schools are shared with the neighboring town of Woodbridge; the junior high is in Bethany while the high school is in Woodbridge. The educational preparation provided by the district includes academic basics as well as special education and a college prep program that offers courses in foreign language, computer programming, and the arts.
