Lee, asked US President Coolidge to name the General Grant tree as the Nation's Christmas Tree. It was so recognized in April 1926. It is located in the King's Canyon National Park. The annual Trek to the Tree happens every year on the second Sunday in December to honor the country's war dead. Local school children make a special trip to the tree during their third grade year to learn about the significance of the tree.
