Fort Bragg, California

Located on the scenic Mendocino coast, Fort Bragg is the home of the world famous Skunk" train. Its beginnings as a military post were short-lived (1857-1867. Fort Bragg began to develop in 1885 when a lumber company was established on the site of the old fort. The 115-year-old sawmill, historically the basis of the city's existence, is one of the oldest operating sawmills in the nation. Many private and charter boats take advantage of the magnificent fishing just offshore for salmon and a variety of other fish. There are miles of hiking and riding trails in the several state parks and state forests in the vicinity.

College of the Redwoods, a 2 year community college, in addition to the standard AA degree has a special course in woodworking taught by the famous instructor James Krenov. Symphony of the Redwoods is headquartered in Fort Bragg as well as the Gloriana Opera Company and other theatrical companies are in the immediate area.

The climate is moderate. Summers are warm and winters are mild and wet. Average annual rainfall in the area is approximately 40 inches with the majority falling from November through April. Average daily high and low temperatures range 55/40°F during winter and 65/50°F during summer. The air is clear and pure with any trace of pollution.
