Fountain Hills, Arizona

Population: 21,800
Located in Maricopa County

Fountain Hills is a planned family-oriented community established in 1970. The area has been a cattle ranch and was part of one of the largest land and cattle holdings in Arizona. It was purchased by Robert McCulloch in the late 1960’s and designed by Charles Wood, Jr. (designer of Disneyland in Southern California). The centerpiece of Fountain Hills is the world’s tallest man made fountain, which sends a jet stream soaring 560 feet (higher than the Washington Monument) into the air for 15 minutes on the hour throughout the day.

True to it’s name, Fountain Hills is a community of hills and valleys, and offers some of the most stunning views in the Phoenix area. It is surrounded by open spaces with the 3500 ft. McDowell Mountains on the West, the Ft. McDowell Indian Reservation on the east, the Salt River Indian Reservation on the south and by McDowell Mountain Regional Park on the North. The population is presently 17,000 and will probably top out at 22,000.

Fountain Hills was named as one of the top 10 communities to live and raise a family and some of the reasons why are: 2 elementary schools, a middle school and a high school, a community center, history museum, library, fountain park children’s playground, tennis and basketball courts, baseball fields, a new 25 acre park, an equestrian center, Fountain Hill Golf Course and 2 new 18 hole golf communities, Sunridge Canyon and Eagle Mountain. Soon to be opened is a community, which will center around a Country Club and will have a resort (no golf course.) Mayo/Fountain Hills Family Medicine is a fully staffed local clinic, and located one mile from the west border is the Western Branch of world famous Mayo Clinic, and a few moments further West is Scottsdale Memorial Hospital.
