Go Wild at the Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum. The 40-acre zoo features more than 700 animals from five continents, showcased in habitats designed around their natural environments. Take a leisurely train ride for an inside look at many of the animals, and eat at the Overlook Café, enjoying views of giraffes, lions and more roaming an African savannah.

The adjacent museum features several dozen exhibits depicting the wildlife and habitats native to North America. Blending education with fun, the Mann Wildlife Learning Museum is one of Montgomery's newest and most exciting exhibits.

And Montgomery offers several parks in which to enjoy a family picnic. Chief among these is the sprawling Blount Cultural Park, 300 acres of hills, lakes and culture. After your picnic, walk to the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts or the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and Shakespeare Gardens.

Enjoy skating of all sorts! Strap on your blades and visit the Montgomery Ice Palace at Eastdale Mall. If roller skating is more your style, don't miss Looney's Skating Rink. And if you're a hardcore skater you'll want to test your skills at Montgomery Sanctuary Skatepark, downtown near Riverfront Park.
