There is a statue honoring the boll weevil. The inscription on the monument reads, "In profound appreciation of the Boll Weevil and What It Has Done As the Herald of Prosperity, This Monument Erected by the Citizens of enterprise, Coffee County, Alabama."

As a result of the devastation of the cotton crop by the boll weevil in 1915, some Alabama farmers diversified their crops out of desperation. To the farmers' surprise, the crops - potatoes, corn, hay, sugar cane and peanuts - flourished.
