Population: 7,411 Located in Etowah County

Located in southeastern Marshall County, Alabama, is the City of Boaz, named after the Biblical character in the Book of Ruth. Boaz first attracted settlers in the late 19th Century because of its rich soil and abundant timber, but today Boaz is a thriving city blessed with good leadership and energetic citizens.

Its close proximity and four-lane Highway 431 make for a short commute to the larger city of Gadsden, but while many Boaz citizens do commute, over 8,000 people are employed within its own city limits. Boaz is best known throughout the south for its many outlet malls and bills itself as "The Shoppers Paradise." On a daily basis, busses from many nearby states can be seen bringing bargain hunters into town for a day of shopping.

Because of this status, Boaz has become a landmark of north Alabama. In addition to its fine school system, Boaz is the home of Snead State Junior College which, in 1998, is observing its 100th anniversary. Snead State strives to meet both the educational and cultural needs of its students and combines academic tradition with innovative educational opportunities.

The Boaz Recreation Center features an Olympic-sized swimming pool; a seven-acre city park; three mini-parks; tennis courts; baseball and softball fields and athletic programs for people of all ages.
