Arab, Alabama is a town that has maintained its southern charm while embracing the future. Located in western Marshall County, Arab has easy access to metropolitan Huntsville with the short commute made easier by the four-lane Highway 231 which has access to the Marshall Space Flight Center and Redstone Arsenal. Arab was incorporated in 1882 and for years was a small isolated city, but explosion of growth created by the "space race" in the 1950's brought Arab to the point where it is today - a town that both remembers and is proud if its past, but one that anxiously looks ahead. Expansion is a key term when it comes to discussions about its future. Arab, like its sister cities of Boaz, Albertville and Guntersville, has a great deal to offer including some of the lowest property taxes in the nation; favorable utility rates from the Tennessee Valley Authority and wage rates which are competitive with the surrounding counties. The Arab City School system is also a cut above the norm with a K through 12 enrollment of approximately 2,700 students, which offers a good student to teacher ratio. Marshall Medical Center North provides the area with a skilled medical staff and the latest technology for medical care. The Arab Park and Recreation Department is busy year round with baseball for boys and girls; softball for adults; youth football and soccer programs and swimming. A new sports complex on the north side of Arab features a basketball gymnasium; weight lifting equipment; racquetball courts plus banquet facilities. In addition, Arab also has two, public 18-hole golf courses. |
